Excelsior Industries is an intergalactic corporation that has recently moved from the baked goods business into the construction of interplanetary combat and mining vessels of a medium quality. This changeover was brought on by the purchase of the bankrupt Shadowfyre Shipyards, manufacturer of the Osprey-class corvette, a vessel that ceased production fifty-two years ago due to many problems. Although this is currently their only product, plans are in motion to build a capital cruiser. Rumor measures the ship at roughly 675 meters in length, with a massive, hard-hitting weapons array forward, a large hangar bay, and mining lasers underneath.
The Osprey class corvette is an old configuration, originally intended as a mining ship. Although she had decent acceleration, she was plagued by poor maneuvering speeds and inadequate shielding, leaving her to rely on the somewhat tougher armor plating in the stern, while leaving the bridge and weapons systems open to attack. These problems forced the company to bankruptcy. They were bought out by Excelsior Industries, who added salvage turrets and an antimatter cannon, extensive forward heavy weaponry, and slightly improved shields. Rebranded as an "all-purpose corvette", she has just been announced to the public.
