Engine Trails

    How about some kind of trails like at 5:15, some trail blocks just for aesthetics?

    The way engines are now looks rather weird, apparently being propelled by inert bubbles of plasma.

    Or for in the future, when/if the speed limits increase, maybe those trails will start appearing when over 100 su? (speed units)

    I dont think the lighting engine would love trails they would draw strange colors be horably overlit when you are close but insignificant if you are far away and render through objetcts.

    I seem to remember Schema wrote that he was adding them in as a framework to be changed later. As far as the idea goes I would love it if engine trails looked the ones in the Homeworld game. Look up some Youtube videos about it. They would sort of like the engine trails in the video you posted just simpler.

    you could have it so that the slower you are moving the thicker the trail and the faster you are moving the thinner the trail., as if you were a reaper off serenity, they have a thick dark cloud/engine trail that is produced because of the way their ships are thrown together, but it is the same principle.

    Perhaps if your engines get damaged then until repaired they leave a smoke trail behind for a set length which may also reduce your top speed and make it easier to spot ships in trouble.

    Personally, one of the ideas I\'d like to see implemented for a few different systems are things that let the player customize the color or even output graphic. For engines you could pick if you even had a trail, what color it would be, and maybe a secondary graphic, like smoke or what have you.

    Personally, I like not having any at all. Otherwise, VFW Fantail Drives would cease to be \"reactionless gravity impellers\" and become \"stupid-looking rocket sheets\".

    Seriously though, i love spaceship games with trails, it makes being in a fighter 20% cooler.

    One of my ships has engines running along the power framework so it take advantage of box size. It would look stupid with trails. But having my fighters with trails? awesome

    I actually vote no on this... but I believe that there should be some sort of \"trail block\" you can place that creates a little glow in front of it (depends on orientation) which casts a trail behind it, kind of like a colored missile. That said, engine exhaust visuals need (primarily coding) work, but for massive drive sections having a contrail coming from each block would look bad... If the trails have to actually come from the engine, at least make them non-mandatory.
