Dual/Multi-Boxing?

I bought the game through Steam; love it.

I'd love to be mining asteroids on my friendly neighborhood survival server in one client and designing my next warship in my local sandbox on another client.

Just launching the client through Steam shows a Steam error about the game already being running. Is there a way to run multiple clients of this game?

Manually launch the game without steam

Go to the starmade folder in your steam library, you should see a folder titled starmade, a useless text file and a program. run it, thats the launcher.

If you want to host a dedicated server while being online on it at the same time, normal singleplayer is just that.
