Trying to cook up a player ship killing drone and was wondering about the design for such a thing and the number of them that'd be needed. I plan of forcing close range fighting between the drones and the players with a push clock and few if any thrusters. This way the AI won't miss if it was told to.
In any event the next part of this monstrosity is to make one drone split into several smaller drones hopefully of the same amount of power as the combine version. This would mean one target turns into several targets and all at close range at that. The general idea is to keep the DPS constant and as long as there is some other factor in play like another player working with the drones these things should be able to bring down even a hard enemy without much effort.
The main thing I've noticed is the AI like to get as far away as it can to attack and I can't have that with these. I've also noticed that the AI doesn't try to maintain a specific distance when it doesn't have any thrusters to work with and is using a push clock.
Hopefully that gives some people some ideas. I'm also trying to fit these into a thin space no wider than 3 to 5 blocks vertically and they should be stackable to themselves. Keep in mind I've got my own design in the works but any ideas from here should be handy for turning these things into real monsters.
