Ok, you know that loading screen where the players view flies around in circles. If you are with in the distance of a planet surface gets generated it is bad.

The consistent flying around causes chunks to load and unload. It would load far far faster if the view remained still.

An option should be added to turn off that flying camera sequence and and just go straight to loading.

Computer handles it just fine. Just still adds to the work and load time no matter what system you have.
Generally I don't log off near a planet. I stopped building on planets ages ago. Stations cause far less lag when loading and respawning if you ever need to do that. Just call me impatient.

Have to agree - theres a good few times I've had to log off in a roid field or near a planet due to a server restart or client crash and sometimes its damned near impossible to load in. The spinning load in of death also makes me want to puke.

How much of the spin is a needed game mechanic in order to get chunks to load at all?

There are many times i use a build block to move myself into parts that fail to load. Only when i do do they pop into place.

So possible you or your entity could have something to do with the chunks loading in???

It does it with a just using a core, one reactor and one thruster, or even just the core itself.
As for the spin being a needed game mechanic not all. It should load based on proximity.

If you can do that reliably, I'd suggest writing a ticket. I think it's the meshing thread gets backlogged sometimes. I'd need to test it. It'll be hard for some else to reproduce since it depends on a lot of factors, but a gif/recording plus logs might help.

If schema would load chunks 1600 away and unload them 3200 away, it wouldn't be such a toggling-mess …

Chunks could have a priority based on distance and active logic on them to load and just replace oldest loaded ones, but it should happen with another threshold - another improvement.

It mostly happens when a server is really buzy. Should i come across it again then i will send some logs.

StarMade does not have an option for this right? I never make ingame movies.

Do you know some good freeware tool to use?

SM has gif-recording, but poor performance last time I tested it (I have to use a low size for it).

Great suggestion. The game should be smart enough to adjust to different situations.

maybe fill up the loading screen with art.. lot of games have that and maybe we can have a photo competition where people send in their pictures of their most beautiful ships and stations to add them as loading screen.

for instance this is what planetside 2 has as loading screen: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/15Ke_B4BT8Y/maxresdefault.jpg

If we ever get loading screens, they could show community content lol.
