whenever i try to dock some ships it teleports the docking ship to way in front of what i try to dock to but some other dockings work.

I had the same problem, for me it was caused by my station being close the edge of a sector. try expanding sector size.

do you know how to do that?

its in the advanced options in the local play (for single player) search sector and increase the sector size. remember sector size is in M, so for 5KM enter 5000.
