Docking Beam

The docking beam is non functional on my ship, and I have no idea how to repair it so I can see it to dock. Please help

Relog, Rebuild Ship, Replace Module, Reinstall SM, etc etc etc?

Try placing a cockpit 1 block above the core. Also the beam might not reach more than 50 blocks from core.
