I have an idea of creating armor plates that can be docked on your ship so you can have extra armor plating that has faster shield recovery and does not add to weight of the ship. Also you can stack the armor plates over themselfs, like sticking docking module together and then when the plates are docked they wil overlap. This way you can have for instance 2 block in the same spot, so when the first one is destroyed, second one will be still there. There is a problem however, when one of the overlaping plates is destroyed, it will bug out and cause massive lag.

I will post pictures as soon as possible

Oh sorry, I will delete this thread, but I want to ask one question, when you have docked ship on cloaking/jamming ship, will the docked ship be also cloaked/jammed?

2 things for you to note:

1)Make sure to use turret docks as turrets can\'t shoot other turrets, but they can shoot docked ships.

2)Missiles can destroy other ships that are near the explosion. So it won\'t be providing as much protection as possible, granted missiles are more of a defensive weapon.

I know normal docks can be though. I seem to recall once hitting one of my turrets too with a gun that was a bit further back, but that may have been an issue at that time and may no longer be the case. Either way, if you can shoot your own turrets (regardless of whether they can shoot each other), then you will want to be careful about how you position your shields. May want to dock a turret with some shields right in front of your main gun, put a camera behind it, and test that quickly.

Anyway, the current combat mechanics mean that in a typical strafe-heavy battle, you will take many hits to the front, but also many hits scattered out along the whole side area when people aim ahead of your movement. Covering up the entire side isn\'t feasible of course, unless you either make the main ship rather shield-light to allow it to carry enough engines to maintain suitable acceleration with such shields attached. You could however place some flat shields sticking out the sides at some points, since the shots that hit your side are still moving towards your rear and so a shield sticking out like an air brake will protect the area behind it.

But yeah, I\'ve toyed with the idea a bit since the shield patch came about. I determined it was indeed feasible, but haven\'t made a serious ship with the concept yet.

If you got AMCs, be sure they fire forward of your shield plates once docked. Your Ships weapons can kill your Turrets if in the Line of Sight :D
