So ive played starmade for a few years..

Ive encountered most documented bugs, and prob alot more that ive forgotten about..

To enjoy the game, least as a survival player, i have accepted that anything that i build ingame,
can vanish and often its traceless..

Now, im a grown man, and can live with this aspect.. But recently i was made admin on a server (didnt ask for it) And so the quest has been to make it a good server..

So one of the first idea i had, was safety and help for new players..
I set up a base in 2,2,2 (after reading about spawns for half a day, i saw no other option, since it seems im not able to make an advanced shop (npc)

So a few days has gone by, and everything has been sweet. (we just came of a full server reset, so stuf was running, and still is, sweet..

But today i log on, and to my horror i see all ships in spawn gone, (mine included)
Its in a protected sector, and was faction locked. Both ships docked to my base, and the spawn shop are all gone, if they were on a rail basic, if they were on a rail rotator they are still here..

So im in a horrible situation, me myself dont care, its starmade, bug central.. But this is gona break a few hearts when the new players log on..

So my question is, am i doing somthing wrong, or do you really not understand how utterly gamegreaking it is when stuff goes missing in survival ??

    ive done
    /serch
    /repair_sector
    /rebooted..
cleared the cash, and had other player go to spawn to make sure it wasnt just on my screen it was gone.

Ships (and doors in the rail toturial i made) has vanished....

Edit : i dont get it, after all these years, saves are still an issue ? a save ? the most core mecanic of gaming in general.. Im no programmer, so i do not understand the limitations of doing stuff in java.. But it still amazes me that somthing so core in a game, is still broken. Saves/(player safety)

    Help

Another thing i really wana add...

Just today, ive had to go to 2 planets (getting 1 fps on a super pc) having to delete the planet to get a newb out of it..

The entire server 25+ people, not being able to play, because of 1 new player (no hostile intentions, wanted to see a planet)

Why are they in the game, when they can break a server in seconds if an admin isnt online and quick about it ?

I really dont get it.. we have a good server able to hoast 40+ ppl with little to no problems.. but 1 newb + planet and the game is dead..

I know we as admins can delete em, but... why ? like the saves, are gamebreaking stuff, still ingame ?

I ask this in the intrest of having starmade grow, and not end up in the pile of "games that could have been epic"

    Your truely

    Disappearing entities:
I personally have not had any ships completely vanish on me. Try getting file access to the server and manually going through the database, also verify that other admins didn't delete the entites - as lots of stuff in a starting sector isn't very helpful to the new game experience.

But yes, once you have file access, look through the database - if the ships still exist on the sever, in some sector - they will be in there.

    Planet lag:
You can have the best "super pc" you want, and still get lag if there's physics involved (I get about 40FPS looking at a fully loaded R1400 planet). Planets themselves don't cause a lot of lag (unless the sever is set up incorrectly, and only really slows the entire server down when they are loading in, or if the server doesn't have a lot of RAM allocated to the game).
You can adjust the size of planets to be smaller (or larger - your preference) by editing the servers server.cfg file.
I imagine what was causing the lag was physics - the player you so kindly saved probably had jammed a ship into one of the plates - causing it to intersect and collide with not only the plate - but the planet core too, resulting in immense calculations and lag.

An easier way to solve this would be to either delete the intersecting ship, or enter it with f1 + f8 and move it using /change_sector, or my using the galaxy map and the 'admin warp' option to the adjacent sector.

These two issues are not ones I have encountered personally - though I do know they are an issue for other players. They aren't necessarily broken, however if a server is set up incorrectly (bad RAM settings, incorrect thread count or block push options, overloading the server) then lag will occur a lot.

This really sucks, but to find the problem the team really needs to see the logs from when this happened. In the Starmade Folder you'll need to upload the logs from around the time of the incident. There are number of things that could be wrong that might not be the games fault, or might be the games fault. The logs will help us understand that. Those are located in the Starmade/logs folder. Ideally matching logs from both client and server around the time of the event would be fantastic.

This is exactly why I jump into an empty sector adjacent to the target planet when using Admin jump on Cake, previous expriences have taught me that admin-jumping straight into a planetary sector usually ends up with the ship stuck in the planet, because the function preserves the location of the character/ship at the source sector, and the game won't calculate if there is something at that location in the destination sector. Similar precautions may be in order for using jump drives in survival, (mainly jumping one sector short of the planet, and then traveling the rest of the way using thrusters).

I also built a dock on my claimed planet, so I can dock my ship to it, because this seems to prevent the problem of ships dealigning with the planet and dropping into the planet core due to being in planetary gravity. I also agree to what Crusade says about saving the ship being a better course of action rather than deleting the ship, because all you have to do is to get the ship out of the planet core and the lag would stop.

It wasnt me stuck in the planet, i do like you say, and tp to the neighbour sector..

But the newb was allrdy acaught inside, i had 1 fps and thank god i had just used /destroy_entity a munnete b4.

I couldent even type.. opening the chat and pressing arrow up to get the cmd ttook bout 15-20 sek..

Tbh, im gona talk to the owner as soon as possible, and remove em from the server..

Ive been told the same by dev's in conversations..

"Starmade is functionning 100% perfectlly, its the server admin/owners that set it up the wrong way"

Now i can kinda understand this answer that ive hear alot over the last few years.. But could it be an idea to maby somehow, make it fkn easyer for owners to set it up the propper way?"

Im a mecanic, and to describe starmade as a car, it seems like you buy a car, with wheels, and an engine, even seats..
But the electronics arent hooked up, neither are the brakes, so getting the engine running, and stopping so you dont kill babies at intersections, is not the manufactureres problem..

Ive fought for survival for years.. But tbh is seems like starmade was never ment to be a survival game.. More a model building game (creative)
