Is there an option somewhere to disable the new forum site chat feature (without logging out from the forums)? I've had some browser crashes and rampant memory allocation since the feature was added. I don't use the chat much, and would at least like to be able to confirm whether it is the cause of the problems.

if you click the hide chat button in the bottom corner it does exactly what your asking about. however, i have also found that it will still maker sounds or new chat updates unless you leave all chat rooms first.

That doesn't really sound like it disables the chat facility, but I can briefly see "offline" indicated when showing it after hiding it. It might have enough of an effect.

    Block the URL /arrowchat/external.php.
    Good to know!

that mite work too however what if you want it turned off butt still like to use it when you want to?
Can probably remove the reference with a greasemonkey script, and re-enable it by switching off the script. Or use a different browser to avoid disruption if the chat is indeed related to the problems.

There is also a "notifications" browser functionality being activated by the chat, which could be another source. I'll try hiding the chat and not enabling notifications to see if just leaving it alone works, then look into creating a GM script if necessary to go further.
    Thanks for the suggestions!
