Well we can probably all guess what the bulk of this dev blog will be about : TwitchCon! But I'll also add some goodies at the end so I can force you to read all the way through.
Yes TwitchCon is on from the 25th to 26th in San Francisco! And right off the bat let's answer a few things:
Does StarMade have a booth at TwitchCon?
Yes we do, and it's going to be marvelous.
Will we meet any of the team from Schine?
Most of the team from Schine will be there including the cat himself, Schema.
Will there be any exclusive content showed at TwitchCon?
It wouldn't be a convention without it, so yes people who attend will get a first hand look at some stuff before anyone else.
What if we can't attend?
Then you can still tune in! It wouldn't be a TwitchCon without livestreaming, so keep www.twitch.tv/starmade permanently open for the next couple days to catch some exciting content live from our booth.
Expect things like live Q&As with the developers, previews of some cool stuff, and more. Who knows what will happen!
If you are attending though come on by take some photos with us. In fact, if you share a photo with us or the booth with the hashtag #twitchconSM on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, or tag us (Star_Made for Twitter, Star-Made for Facebook) and include your SMD username then you'll earn yourself an exclusive TwitchCon 2015 attendee badge on SMD, and maybe some other exciting stuff down the track when some new features go into the game.
Keep an eye on all our avenues of sharing updates, Twitter, Facebook, Twitch, Reddit, and right here on StarMade Dock to get updated on everything that's happening, times to expect announcements or specific stuff on the stream.
You can probably imagine with all the preparations for the convention not a lot has been happening in development land apart from some optimizations and bug fixes, in which case you'd be correct. But that doesn't mean we haven't still been working on planning out a number of exciting things. While you'll hear about a lot of it over the next few days, most would know that the past year has pretty much been focused on ship-related features. It's been great and we've seen a lot of sweet-as features go in, with some big-ticket ones being ticked off. Rails – check! Shipyards – check! Jump Drives – check! Flashlights – check! New GUI – check! Creative Mode – check! On-ship spawning – check! Galaxies – double check! In fact this time last year we only just enabled salvagers to be linked to storage. Feels like a forever ago.
The past year has definitely been a productive one, we completely changed the way docking work, the way the game looks, and in fact the way the universe is generated with it now being comprised of star-systems and galaxies. But that's enough looking back, time to look forward.
Right now is a significant time for StarMade. Here at Schine we've been going into quite a bit of detail, fleshing out large portions of the game. Everything from factions, and races, to NPC interaction and how players progress through the game. We've been looking at so many aspects of the game as we want to ensure a smooth and seamless integration between everything. It's a little slow going at the start but things will definitely speed up once we've finalised a lot of things.
If our last season was the ship sandbox season, our next season we're moving into you could call the RP season. We haven't forgotten about any bugs or additional upgrades to existing features for ship building, but we're primarily going to be pushing forward into aspects of the game we haven't yet experienced. Exciting times ahead definitely.
But you'll hear more as we present over the next few days at TwitchCon. Thanks for playing StarMade!
Until next time,
- Bench
