    Dear Devs,

Please with the new crafting update let factories be on ships. I have always dreamed of having a giant factory ship in starmade.

    Love,
    Battlecruiser

There would be no reason at all to defend a planet or station if this was implemented.

It is way too easy for a troll to wreck an undocked, unpiloted ship, despite updates to help (personal faction enemies). I lost a big ship to someone who kept making throwaway factions, and taking advantage of ships having depleted shields when the server loads them.

Edit: this was before personal faction enemies, but there are other methods.

...unless you built a factory on a station or on a planet. different play styles, different choices. The choice to build such a thing would mean having it well protected and maybe being on a server where such troll like acts are frowned upon. or maybe we put a bell around the cats neck. that way, when ever the bell rings, we would know to run.

I would love to have those lifter, elevator thingamabobs on ships too. not sure if the lifters like gravity though. I do know they don't work so well on the default freebie resource stations. Maybe after a few tweaks. Also, maybe another hot key to simply level your ship, rather than leveling it and turning to face galactic north or what ever cardinal direction it points your ship in. All I need is pitch and roll adjustments not so much yaw to some direction that is 99.9% of the time not the direction I was heading.

...just the ramblings of madman. I think I need sleep

No, there wouldn't be a reason, not for factories anyway, that's for sure.

Why would you put a factory on something immobile when you could put it on something mobile instead?

Trick question; anyone who plays the game competitively isn't going to. There are no advantages, only disadvantages. And tons of people are going to be playing Starmade for the PvP/Trading Faction Competition part.

If this was implemented, no one would make a factory on a planet or station except their home base.

Because the mobile things can be destroyed? so if your factory was placed on a ship it greatly increases the risk of losing a ton of money and materials rather than just having them on a factioned homeworld

Even if most people won't use it, I think it would be nice option to have.

Ok, in the future, the faction system is being changed to use "faction points." Not a lot is known yet, but it's presumed that factions will probably need non-homebase outposts, and won't be able to fit everything they'll ever need in a single base. In this new scenario, why would anyone build a factory on something that wasn't mobile? It completely removes the point of defending a station or planet, because there is no reason to defend one. You'll be able to move creatures to a ship, so it's not like they'll be a reason to defend a planet.

...Non-mobile things don't run the risk of being bomped out of place, and/or stolen by some troll. Plus, if your stuff's at your base you don't have to worry about being targeted by some titan and destroyed while you're flying about.

...Most importantly, even with the Faction Points system, bases (plural!) will still be invulnerable as long as your faction has enough points to keep them that way. As opposed to ships, which are never invulnerable unless docked.

well while not having factories on ships is unrealistic, gameplay wise it makes not a lot of sense either.

If a player/faction wants to have a planetary base or a station, he can make a factory. If they want to have a ship as their base, there's no reason to force them to have a planetary outpost or station for the sole purpose of crafting. You should always be able to have a factory, whatever your playing style is.

Now it dosen't makes planets/stations useless, because of faction homebase mechanics, and because they can be somewhat easier to defend (always easier to put thosands of shields blocks and turrets on a station than on a ship, because mobility is not a concern. And also, you can save all energy for shields and weapons instead of engines). And planets can always be used for mining, so you may want a mining outpost there (unless you're using a oversized slavager to remove it all at once).

So the idea is just that factories should not force you to play a specific way, and having just a ship as a player, or using a ship as a faction base should still allow you to do whatever you want, and be a viable playstyle.

And anyway, outside of the gameplay part, you have tons of roleplay or style reasons to build stations or on planets. and a lot of servers take them very seriously.

Yes, there is servers where players are mostly concerned by PvP and faction combat efficiency, but there, evryone is flying in doomcubes and either not very concerned by factories, or they'll just find ways of making them so that they can carry them around (like placing temporary and easily build and slavaged factories on nearby planets and stations when they are needed), so we shouldn't care about these guys.

ahh this would be reaally good for new players to start crafting basic materials quite early on, because you usually have to get good money before starting up a base.

I would love this. Maybe if it took longer to craft to balance it?

Who else would also like to see Plexlifters on ships?

Just let factories have a lot of mass if they are imba else (either by high block count required or once the new weight system comes out...)

    Stations don't care about mass.

yeah and also factories which have lots of enhancers take a lot of power, and ships tend to be smaller than planets/bases, so you probably wouldn't have a primary factory there
