Connecting Issues

When I start up Starmade I put in my name and put single player with the sandbox option. I press ok and sometimes uplink it to my account. I click ok and I get a box saying Connecting. And then nothing after. Left it alone for an hour and it still saying connecting. That is as far as I have gotten. I have redownloaded the game many of times and still can't connect. Please Help

Probably doesn\'t help that I connect to a british server from the U.S., but sometimes it takes me a while in order to be able to connect and I don\'t know why. I would like some explanation as to why this might be happening.
