Im going to split this up into 2 parts read all of them :P Im open to improvements on this suggestion so please if you think you can make it better then please say your ideas schema will read all not just the post :)

Color Slider for hull colors and hull paint:
When you buy hull its white and in order to color it you buy hull paint, say you had 1 stack of 1000 Unpainted Hull you could say 10 hull paint and then apply it to your stack then a GUI pops up with a color slider and you can customize your colors using the Red, Green and Blue Sliders.
So say you wanted to buy 100000 blank hull you needed 10000 Red Hull, 50000 Blue Hull, and 40000 Gold Hull you buy (assuming 1 Hull paint = 100 Blocks) 1000 Hull Paint and then you apply 100 Red Color to 10000 of the hull in your stack, 500 Blue into 50000 of the stack and 400 Gold into into 40000 of your stack of blank hull and BAM you now have a stack of 3 different colors, the colors could be organised in the games code by Metadata or Hexadecimal Values this will also make putting hull into blueprints easier to manage as all you need to do will be to put your hull into 1 stack on the blueprint then put the appropriate amount of hull paint in the blueprint.

    Hull Buff:
Seriously, shields are the key defense in StarMade nowdays and once they are gone you can rip through the hull easily i would like to see hull at least be able to survive a few AMC volleys or 1 or 2 missile before it gives way simply because armor is armor not paper the whole point of armor is to be the second defense after the shields fail not just to make your ship look good and cover your systems.

RGB colour sliders were already a rejected idea.

Hull is getting an armour boost with the HP system. The problem is that hull and armour does not currently scale, whereas weapons do, which should be remedied by the ship-wide armour system that should come with the hp system.

RGB colors sounds like lots of meta data, and if what cybertao said is true, that's probably why it was rejected. The devs want to keep meta data down. Less information that needs to be shared helps performance.. I'm sure you got that idea from Space engineers, since that is their method of getting colored hull. But SE is known among this community for hindering performance and limiting the scale of builds.

Also, lets wait for the planned health system before making suggestions to block stats. Hull and armor recently got buffed btw.

A Meta-data friendly version of RGB blocks would be to have one or two "blank" block series (Full, Wedge, Corner ...).

You could choose the colour of these two series with a RGB slider and that value is saved ONLY for that structure.
If you change the colour, all blocks of this series also change.

This way, we could have one or two individual colours per structure and I think in most cases, this would be enough.

Four or six Bytes more per structure would be ok :)

Actually, if that's possible that wouldn't be too bad. 2 custom colors per ship could go a long way. Dark green, pink, cyan, light blue, dark blue, lime. All of these colors could do a lot for a ship. I never though of tying that value to the ships. That actually sounds awesome. Can someone like kupu give their thoughts on this?

Metadata per ship should be rather easy, i mean if youve ever worked on a modded MC server, there are hundrets of IDs, Metas, and additional Strings on each chracter. Im more concerned about Starmades Engine, as in how much does it cost performance wise to use real time color changing shaders.

Also, since this is kinda about decorative hull/armor and the health system, i really do hope the new healthsystem wont force us to use adv armor or go down in flames, aka that the final difference between hull, std armor and adv armor will be rather minimal with that system, otherwise thats gonna limit the available blocks for efficient ships, making them even more ugly.

I don't think it has an performance impact unless some idiot build 1000 drones, with 1000 different colours.

Maybe all hull and armor blocks can be used to differ the colour. Per default the colour is set to the present value and if you want you can change it for that structure.

Would not use a single additional blockID, and would give us many custom colours :)

i know armour was buffed. but i think it should be more buffed, be a challenge to take out, once thats taken out then theres the juicy systems to kill :D
when i build system bricks and put hull on it, i really get annoyed when building it and try to use as little armour as possible so that my ship is very fast. its only purpose in my world is simply that my ships are not embarrasing.

Maybe, some time in the far future, sixty or seventy years from now and when devs who haven't already rejected the idea are dead and gone, we can revisit the issue. Until such a time, let's maybe drop it, or at least use the search function before we bring it up again.
