Cockpit to enter ship and hidden core?

So how do you use the cockpit to enter the ship?

Or do i always have to have a exposed core somewhere just to access the ship?

You can\'t enter your ship through the cockpit, you have to do it through the core.

What you can do is put a plex door on the outside of your ship which leads into a room with the core, that way the core is still enclosed as long as you close the plex door behind you.
