The cloning vat module is an alternative to the Undeathinator that would allow individual players or factions create custom spawn points. The cloning vat could be built on stations or planet and would create a 1x2 area that would need to be kept clear(much like a docking station area). the player would then bind to it though an interface while the owner could configure who has access. slowly over time a clone would be produced in the 1x2 area(maybe a cool little animation showing a dave being created. bones to muscle to flesh) which pulls power from the station/planet entity its on. players would not be able to spawn at the location until the clone was completed (this would create medical bays for bases and stations to have enough clones for players spawning) but you could link medical blocks to the cloning vat module to reduce the growth time but it increases the power consumption.

This could benefit astronaut combat later if stations or planetary bases were raided or attacked, .It gives an additional use to medical blocks and just adds some additional immersion with functionality. what do you all think?

Sounds a bit crazy but I think it´s a good idea. Perhaps you won´t get your inventory back after spawning as clone or something like that....

It'd certainly be cool as an option, but what happens if there aren't any clones left?

what mega said, you'd have to wait for the next clone to complete or choose a different location to spawn at. this is why the vat would be an option not a replacement to the undeathinator. admins for servers could place one at a public hub of sorts so you'd always have some place to fall back to and then you'd have the ones at trade guild shops.

I think it is a great idea, but rather than them creating themselves, I would prefer that the creation starts when a player decides to spawn there, so that instant spawns aren't possible. This would allow for a respawn warmup time so that if a battle is happening they can't just be back instantly if there happens to be a clone waiting for them.

This is almost a direct ripoff of the minecraft shell mod, I'm saying that with all love intended ... Great idea.

if a battle is happening and say i have 5 vats all with clones at the ready the first 5 will instantly respawn; that 6th person will have to wait, if those same 5 then die they to will have to wait afterwards. you'd only get an instant spawn as long as the clones were readily available. So in a battle situation you would have a delay as the battle progressed additionally if your station or power supply cant maintain the drain from the constant use your going to run out or hit a massive delay over prolonged combat.

yeah, seeing the clone being created was inspired by the shell mod. i love that thing in crash landings.
