    As some of you may know I've been using my own ship classification system, at the request I've decided to post it here for all to see.

    [X][NNN][Y] _ NameShip _Autor

    X : for principal using, replace by :

    T = Transport,
    L = Logistics (Astro-beam, powersupply beam),
    X = Fight,
    S = Salvager,

    N : mass in ktonnes (100 000 blocks) = 10 000 mass = 10

    Y : Optional who indicates specificity like it is a drone or a turret, ship is a perma cloak or jam.

    Dr = drones,
    Tr = turrets,
    Cl = perma-Cloack
    Jam = perma-RadarJammer

    So it's X66_hatak_byBrolak for my ha-tak : link

    Simple enough, definitely helps clean my catalog up a bit...
    I\'ll start using this. Thanks for the idea :D

    I think this is the best classification/naming system I\'ve seen but I\'m not sure what I should put for my mass since most of my ships are less than 1K

    BB-battleship.

    CA-carrier (if I ever make one)

    CR-cruiser

    CL-light cruiser.

    DD-Destroyer.

    FR-Frigate.

    GS-gunship (or at least whenever I get enough ships to re-evaluate my shipsm I\'ll start that).

    HF-heavy fighter.

    LF-Light fighter.

    Mi- miners. Or other civilian ships if there is ever reason for them. A trader could perhaps be TR.

    T-turrets.

    Z-stuff I yoinked from other people.

    Letters in question are followed by an underscore, then the class name (or ship model, for small things).

    Its also nice in that (aside from the two cruisers) it goes in alphabetical order based on size. I am unlikely to make a dedicated carrier larger then what I would consider a battleship, so that\'s fine too (RL ones are large because we don\'t have convenient anti-grav zero-takeoff-length technology). Oh, and you naval term accuracy nuts stay out of this. I don\'t give a phooey whether destroyers and cruisers are supposed to be about the same size or not, and are just seperate roles.

    Actually, if any of you have an idea for a good term for a large vessel designation that begins with A, that could be helpful. Otherwise, I may just use J for Juggernaut (see: Freespace, even if the rest of that game\'s ship class sizes were all out of whack) or something. Speaking of, I recently made a Hercules fighter.

    Edit: Eh, I suppose I could just put CC for standard cruisers. Also, where do corvettes typically lie size-wise again?

    I do need to addopt a naming convention... everything I have so far is fighter, interceptor, heavy fighter, corvette, gunboat...

    I can imagine how telling the mass is more descriptive than those \"corvette\" etc names :D

    It would be easier to class ships to its role.

    Like a \"Frigate\" is a warship intended to protect other warships and merchant ships,

    \"Destroyer\" is a fast and maneuverable yet long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet or battle group and defend them against smaller, short-range attackers.

    Also, this is always something that bugs me when people start coping real world ship types to define their Starmade ship types. They don\'t take into account how Starmade actually works. Case and point, what does endurance mean is Starmade? Every ship, even a single core block, has infinite range, and all warships have regenerating shields.

    Borlak\'s one is unique and actually fairly readable which I like.

    That said everyone is free to follow whatever standards they like or no standard at all. That\'s the point of having a sandbox ship building game.

    It really doesn\'t matter about endurance. Scifi has no standards to class types. It\'s simple to call a ship small, large or massive and what it\'s role is ie miner, fighter, show pony, flagship, carrier, trade or general purpous ( that includes everything.
