    I live!

Jokes aside, I just wanted to let y'all know that I'm taking a break from video games for an indefinite period of time (been 5 months already). So I have no idea if and when I'll start working on the ship again...

However, I'd still like to finish it some day, perhaps once the game is out of the heavy development stage. So yea, I'm not saying that I'll never finish it, just won't be any time soon.

At least attach the blueprint files of your abandoned work to the thread man!

Hey guys/gals, it's been quite a while since I've posted here. Don't worry, while I haven't had the opportunity to play starmade due to other real life occupations, I feel like I might finally be ready to continue work on the ship. It's been on the back of my mind this whole time after all.

However, I'm going to do things a bit differently this time around. For starters, I'll be making actual concept art/sketches, which should help me nail down exactly how I want this ship to look like. I'll then make one or multiple miniatures in-game to get proportions and everything right for different segments of the ship. Then finally, only once I'm satisfied with the look, will I build the features full scale. This method should allow me to save a lot of time by minimizing revisions on the full scale ship, and increase the quality of detailing/structuring (since I'll test multiple variants on paper). I used to pretty much wing it for details and believe me, testing stuff out directly on a 1.3km long ship is NOT time efficient at all.

I don't have as much free time as I used to, so don't expect this to be a fast process by any means. But hey, slowly but surely, right?

Alright so I started to work on the ship a bit, first thing I'm doing is changing the god-awful side of the mid-section:

It's horrible, I hate it. Hence, wire mesh/frame hell:

    Should look much better.

Note: In case you're wondering how the orange thingy in the first picture became vertical in the second, that's because it's part of the turret base for the wings. I simply rotated the scaffolding out of the way.

    Update 3 : Hull reworks

Hi! This is a relatively small update, I just wanted to get it out there to show that I'm actually back and building. First update in over a year! So I essentially just re-built the side section of the hull:

    Old:

    New:

Now you might think, "But Keptick, that's really not much, does it really deserve an update of it's own?". While it doesn't look like it, making such irregular shaped hull is very time consuming, since I had to do everything by hand. Here's a breakdown of how I did it:
Step one: Removing the old hull and making a frame

Step two: Roughly filling in the hull

Step three: Cleaning up the irregularities and making everything more consistent

Step four: Wedging the whole thing

Step five: Replacing the visible blocks with the right color

Step six: Doing the same steps for the side

    Step seven: Removing extra/leftover blocks

Final step: Recoloring the whole thing

Here's what the whole ship currently looks like, keep in mind that it is still heavily work in progress and that anything can change at this point.
    Top:

    Bottom:

Anyways that's it for today, hope you like it!

Edit: I re-worked the original post to separate the previous and current versions of the ship more clearly, I will now be referring to them as Charon 1.0 and 2.0, respectively.

    Just wanted to show a top down view of both old and new side by side, for scale comparisom. Keep in mind that both ships are missing the side wings;

As you can see, the new ship is slightly longer (around 150m iirc). The mid section is also narrower on the new ship, but it's higher/longer so the volume should be roughly the same (there's actually an underside this time around). The middle might look a bit too slim when seen from the very top, but it looks fine from literally every other angle. Will also look much better once the pylons for the wings will be in place.
