changing the color of a ship

Ok so I was looking at my capital the other day, and realized that it would look amazing in black. After a few hours of fiddiling with SMedit I realized its hopelessly broken. I coooould replace several million hull blocks by hand, but I also would like to submit it for the new starmade trailer and id never get it done in the next 5 days . Anybody have any ideas at all? There's gotta be some way to change the blueprint so instead of using white hull the id is black hull upon import....
