Change the Trees!

The title is pretty descriptive for this one. I mean, look at this comparison!

Is the problem that they look too much like the ones in Minecraft? Because that isn't really a bad thing. But a few of the smaller trees that Nauvran showed would be cool.

There's only so many ways to make 5x5 trees out of cubes... But I get what you mean

Thing is, the trees don't have to be short 5x5 ones, branches, roots, and stuff like that could liven them up a bit. The Minecraft-ish style kinda annoys me because there is just a stump and that's it really, no room for unique stumps (other than height difference) or branches inside the little leaf cube (well, rectangular prism to be more exact, but you get what I mean).

Yes, the trees are kind of uninspiring so far.

Real trees are amazing to look (up) at...it would great to have some trees with majesty.

ppsst those trees I showed are models I ported in via SMedit.
And made of hull not wood but that can easily be changed

I'm assuming they are probably going to tackle trees in the flora and fauna updates. My guess is we wouldn't see this until after planets get retooled.

If nothing else they could have a central 'trunk' of blocks with LoD blocks for the finer details like roots and the like? Just throwing stuff at the wall here Cave Johnson style.

I definitely think the trees could use improvement, but that is most likely going to be included with flora. Unless trees are fauna...in which case they'll come with that update...

If that Lord of the Rings movie I've heard so much about is anything to be considered, then trees can be both flora and fauna.

Planet surfaces have been the same since 2012

They will probably change all of that in some distant future update.

Nicer trees would be, well, nicer.

Leaf and log wedges, and a log block similar to the pipe, would allow for more interesting trees.
