    Downsides:
    • You waste much space to hangars
    • Fighters already lose fire-power before the shields on all fighters together are down.

    As buffs, I would like
    • carriers reduce number of required blocks on fighters.
      • carriers supply fighters with power automatically (turrets which target friendly which really need power)
    • fighters with low shields hide inside/behind the carrier or out of range from their most recent attacker to use their full shield recharge advantage
      • shields should last longer vs weapons to give fighters more time to launch / fight

1 big entity has only limited shield recharge. Many small can cover each other and thus each one has time to regenerate shield with full efficiency and power.
This could be the buff swarms of smaller ships -even if AI-controlled- without artificial limitations or boni (such as higher efficiency on small scale or diminishing returns on big scale)

I actually really like this idea. As long as there's a way to prevent it from being scaled up to larger ships
Why? If they have a dock on the carrier they should benifit the same as the fighters. And at some point your just sucking your carrier dry so having bigger ships would be in some way a downside if they aren't self sustaining.

Well if the whole point of the change is to give fighters a buff against larger ships, there's not much of a point if the buff applies to larger ships too.

True, however such a buff would already limit itself. The carrier can only supply a limited amount of energy. Big ships obviously drain more energy than small ships, and as such a carrier can support fewer of them. Additionally bigger ships take up more hangar-space, and thus limit the amount of energy generators available, if the total ship size remains the same.

NeonSturm I like your idea but i see 3 problems:

1º Range of shielding recharge for fighters
2ºHow the motherships knows the diference between they fighters and a fighter or another wessel from the faction.
3º Posiility of players exploiters doing the thing they love.

For the rest it´s a real awesome idea.
    1.
??? power recharge (power is used for shields)

    2.
You link multiple docks to some kind of new AI-computers and now this computers provides a list of fighters most recently docked there. Also link it to multiple turret docks and this turret does something with this target-selection (differentiate between turrets and ships).

    3.
You can't balance something before you know how it will be implemented by schema. Exploits are everywhere in alpha-phase games.

what about you can build support turrets. support turrets fire a beam at ships of the same faction and increase it power, shields and other things by a percentage. the percentage will be 1 blocks of support to 10 blocks of the ships mass =100% support that doubles the status. the weapon could have 2500m range.

good thoughts, but 2500 range will greatly encourage missiles with beam/pulse slaves to target carriers, as previously missile-missile and pulse-beam were used against the majority of fighters.

Too much missile in my opinion (if it does not get rebalanced)
