In the community of Starmade there is often generalizations about two cliques or groups of players. The term PVPer and Carebear are often used to describe styles of play/server.

IMO the PVP crowd are playing the Meta-game and do a valuable service of testing the balance of the current version of the game. The Care-Bear servers are creating a less stressful environment for players who are tentatively trying out MP, perhaps for the first time, and helping newer players with building and SM in general.

Both groups are serving the development of SM and deserve to be recognized for their contributions. As classifications though, these titles are lacking something. We can do better people. Does anyone have a thought about this? Are there better terms we can use? If not we are going to be stuck with them.

Carebear is a title typically given to people that play on PvP servers but cry as soon as their paint is scratched. However, in their defense, a lot of so called "PvP" servers have draconic anti-PvP admin measures and prevent any real PvP from hapenning. Those are generally called carebear servers.

In general, these two groups appear to be served by the terms "Fighter" and "Builder". Not to be left out: Roleplayer, which leans more toward builder, but also can get into PvP territory, while having their own feature, of playing pretend, beyond the game meta.

Hm, 'care bear' is a concept I hadn't heard of before. ;)

Afaik there are two general play styles PvP (Player versus Player) and PvE (Player versus Environment). The first mainly is about multi-player fighting and waging war among factions, the second is more like role playing and survival with emphasis on building and exploring the universe and the occasional struggle with the competition, if placed in a multi-player environment. :)

PvE typically can also exist in a single player game, but most environmental hazards are yet to be added to the current universe.
