Broadside Lasers

I haven't had the game very long but I have already realised that a large ship cannot function in combat without some sort of broadside weapons, and I have not been able to do this. Is there some way that I am just missing, or is this not possible yet?

Unless you have multiple people on a ship working port and starboard weapons, your weapons will always fire where your crosshair is. Always. With everything. Thats why the bigger the ship, the more you will need manning it.

You can add turrets to shoot automagically.
