This is a feature that all battle loving groups would need to be protected and is largely seen in all of the sci fis from storm troops to boba fett, master cheif and starship troopers

Craftablity will be a must to acqire such protection with different branches from shielded to heavy armored to basic vanila

Modding or what we use for astronaught skins could be used for armor in its own special option bar

    Armor classes

Basic armor is the weakest armor it allows normal movement and minimal protection

Heavy armor gives substantial protection at the cost of movement

Shielded armor offers better protection then the heavy armor but allows for normal movement. Its armor recharge rate is minimal.

Power armor is an armor that you have to find its protection is the best its strong armor shell and strong shields will protect against most small arms fire and a ship grade cannon bolt will see you through a battle. It has a moderate recharge rate allowing for shorter time on needing to be behind cover. Its advanced circuitry allows for moderately faster movement giving a mobility advantage on the battlefield

Instead of just pushing for premade astronaut gear with customizable skins...
...why not just go the whole nine yards and introduce a mini-block astronaut gear setup?

Block-based building with shiplike modules. Weapons can drain from either their own power bank or that of the player's armor. Armor is made of individual pieces that can be constructed. Weapon length and armor dimensions affect maximum player turning rate, and combined equipment mass affects movement speed.

Oh, also, turret docks and internally mounted weapons in armor that can be placed in hotbar slots just like handheld weapons.

Anyhow, yeah, this is a REALLY popular suggestion, and AFAIK, it's planned to come in the future in some form. I just hope we get customizable armor pieces to put on Dave.

It more then likely is going to have parts you will have to find like with weapons if a dev will confirm it or not is up for debate

Mini-blocks have already been rejected on several occasions for several different systems, including gear/equipment building.

Saber has this to say on the subject:

There were a few issues that led us away from letting people build their own weapons block by block. We agreed that it was definitely an intriguing idea, but some of the issues included the need for a new micro-block system, which would mean the game would be calculating even more individual blocks to render as more and more players entered the same area. Determining weapon output location, and how the weapon would be held, and how that would interact with the player model was another big issue.
