Has anyone found a good way to get a boarding party aboard an enemy ship? So far I've been trying to figure out ways around the problems of breaking shielding so they can actually do damage, gravity, and just keeping up with the ship so that they can get aboard.

What I've experimented with was using a dropship style, basically the gravity sphere from a gravity block keeps going down below the ship, so you get a "Down" facing door that you point towards your enemy and then they open the door and "Fall" out onto the ship and have gravity for a time, hopefully long enough to get aboard and inside. However I haven't been able to do much testing in actuall combat conditions and I suspect that faction modules and permissions would give potential boarding parties a lot more trouble. As currently, I have it set up so that the would be boarders put disintegrator bombs on the hull, the lower camera spire on the drop ship touches them to set them off, and the team goes in through the resulting hole.

The other Idea I had was just using antimatter cannons to cut a hole but if I could do that I don't particularly see the point of sending in a boarding party to begin with. So...

    Any thoughts?

If there are either no gravtiy modues or a faction module, a boarding party would simply be thrown out of the ship..currently boarding is not possible I think

That\'s what I\'m saying, testing wise, I\'ve managed to build a dropship that, if it gets close enough, can impart it\'s gravity onto another ship temporarily. So far I\'ve managed succesful boardings of an Isanth, and one of my cubeship designs.

Both were against stationary factionless targets due to single player... but still, all seems to work as planned.

The main problems so far is the part where I can\'t test against something with an active faction module, I don\'t have a team to do a mobile test (Where the dropship is moving) and I\'m not sure how to beat the shielding from inside the ship.

Also about placing disintegrators: you can\'t place objects on other factions ships. And you could use admin commands to spawn a ship with a faction module

Aha! I thought that was right, I tried placing a faction block on a ship, but I think it disbanded the faction when I left? I dunno.

Add a faction module to the targeted ships and you will be stuck in front of the doors and not able to turn of gravity(and you can probably imagine the rest)

Teleporters, one on boarding ships.. and teleport straight to the be border ship that is targeted (and in combat - red colored and without shields)? This would also allow people to actually build teleporter platforms on their ships and people can gather there to prepare.

It seems to me that boarding is pretty useless unless the ship is really really big, due to that I can\'t see this being all that useful except in rare cares. Most of the time it\'d just be better to defeat the ships the normal way.

Boarding can be used to gain free ships or to destroy from the inside. a couple of times i have boarded an isanth pirate and took control which basically gave me a free ship

But last I checked, the ship core doesn\'t get protection from the ship\'s shields, meaning if you have your ship core exposed it can take damage even if the ship\'s shields are up. That alone could make boarding a useful tactic.

Though, for any sort of boarding to happen, player coordinates really need to be made relative to the ship they are inside, so that we don\'t just get pasted to the back wall whenever the ship accelearates or warped out due to \"stuck\" detection...
