I decided to shelve my star destroyer project for the time being to work on something more unique. As far as I know, no one has built anything from Battletech - it is popular for its mech combat, not its space craft. However, some of Loose's 3057 artwork is pretty damn awesome, so I decided to make an 1:2 scale Aegis-class Heavy Cruiser.
I'm borrowing a bit of internal design methodology from another player. The ship will eventually be built with the internals such as the engines, the K-F drive, the fusion reactors and the massive naval autocannon batteries. Then, the decks will be configured around the internals.
The jury is still out whether or not I'll be making the broadsides turrets or static weapons with side-mounted weapon computers. It'll take a while to navigate the decks to get to side-mounted computers, since they cannot benefit from cockpit cameras.
Also undetermined is the paint scheme. I've got several options: I'm tired of white since my star destroyer, so that eliminates the normal Word of Blake and Comstar schemes. Clans are right out for personal reasons. SLDF is probably the big ticket.
For some reason, the post refuses to scale the images properly. Oh well.
[EDIT: To reduce the horror of this topic's dimensions, I'm posting only the most recent screenshots, and instead linking the album for the historical archives:
