Astronaut mods is used any time you're not in a ship's core or some other kind of computer, but even after the speed boost, it's still a bit slow. This is made even more apparent on larger ships and stations. My idea is as follows:
You could add a kind of thruster boost that behaves like sprint mechanics do in other games. When a button is pressed you would get a momentary increase in speed and velocity, with a meter that refills over time. This could be handled in a few ways:
The speed boost could only be used while the button is pressed down, and when you release it, you stop, just like you do when flying or walking normally in astronaut mode.
You could use an acceleration/deceleration mechanic where you continue to move forward after usig the boost until you slowly decelerate over time, like when flying a ship.
While inside the gravity field of a ship, station or planet, this mechanic could morph into an actual sprinting mechanic, where you simply move faster while pressing down the thrusters button.
Any thougths on this?
