Armor Plating

Essentially slabs like in minecraft. They could be hardened slabs that can be used for armor without adding a ton of mass to your ship.

I undestand what you\'re saying. You would like to basically get a half-block of hardened hull, in the interest of at least halving mass you get from creating more well-armored ships. But hardened hull is just as massive as normal hull, so why not just build your ship out of it? Furthermore, the whole idea of \"armor\" is that it is denser and thus harder to break. Dense objects are more massive by nature. So if there was a half-slab of hardened hull, it would make sense for it to have the same mass as an entire block of normal hull.

instead of the half block similar to the Minecraft slab. With a 1/3 block you can put it on the top middle or bottom of a block preserving top/bottom symmetry. Plus with hull HP as it is now hull feels more like paint than armor so skinning/painting your ship with 1/3 of the mass instead of 1/2 would be spiffy. Also once the hull gets balanced enough to be useful we have our light armor for our smaller ships, or less vulnerable areas of bigger ships.
