The idea is primarily for planetary bases to neutralize gravity over a specific area, such that a ship can be built. Can't very well build a ship while the core is rolling around on the ground.

Not altogether certain how that would work out. The same measurement and system as docking systems, I suppose. Cover an area, add modulars in an arrangement to increase the dimensions to your liking.

I like this idea, someone posted the same sort of thing a while back but reverse, IE when you enter an area you have gravity. This means you can just walk into a field instead of having to seek out a block for localised gravity

    just an extra thing:
if you use stop modules as effect (not connected to computers)
it will stop the gravity effect
usefull for salvaging and building on planets,
maybe try to use stopping power on the planet itself, never tried it
[DOUBLEPOST=1423127764,1423127570][/DOUBLEPOST]if you are talking about anti-gravity shields
they should also add a gravity shield, this could make awesome things, YOUR SHIP WILL HAVE THINGS ORBITTING AROUND IT (or something)
ALSO: perfect for carriers! first they release their drones, then they just activate the gravity and the drones come back!

a work around for planet building would be to build a stilt of blocks along the y axis and then dock it to a docking port on the planet. then just build like normal. when you're done just delete the stilt

I tried the stilt trick a month or so ago, worked wonderfully until I fumble clicked and extended the ship beyond the docking boundary. Thankfully it wasn't a large ship (less than 1,500 blocks) and did not cause much lag. Since then I've found it much simpler to build in orbit, just a bit past my Geo-syncronis orbiting platform linked to the surface by a 2 way gravity elevator.

I actually use this technique on a space station to put enough space between the core and the dock to build a ship.
