I'm planning to use turrets extensively on my next ship. With research I've been able to figure out most of what I wanted to know, except one thing.

If you have a turret that has limited range of motion due to collision, say it can only point in a 60 degree arc directly forward, is the AI smart enough to focus on targets within that arc, or will it just continually try to turn to keep tracking the same target that has moved behind it?

right now turrets aren't very 'smart' , if it doesn't have full range of movement it will eventually get stuck and keep trying to rotate in the direction that is blocked

Due to collision detection on each turret each additional turret requires extra collision calculations so depends on a lot of factors you may end up having to limit how many turrets your using depending on your PC or server. I'm trying to reduce my computer lag by having fewer turrets.
