So, ive been playing around with my space station i recently built, and found pirates seemed to like attacking it....

so I built AI ships to defend it.

however i seem to always lose them because they chase after the pirates and then never come back.

I say there should be a pair of blocks that prevents this.

Block 1 would be placed on whatever base you have, and you would give it a code to link with all the Block 2s. Block 1 will also have a GUI that does the following things:

    • Tell you how many ships are connected to this block
    • Have an On/Off switch
    • has a bar where you set the connection code
    • Has a bar that you set the maximum distance from Block 1 the ships can be before they have to turn back
    • Tells you what faction it is set to if a faction block is connected to it.
    • (Optional) Link all AI controlled ships in range

Block 2 would be placed on the AI controlled ship. You then enter the same code that block 1 gives you to link them together. Block 2's GUI will have these things:

    • Tell you the distance from Block 1
    • Tell you the faction if a faction block is connected
    • Have an ON/Off switch

    Other notes:

    • Block 1 COULD be placed on ships to make "fighter" ships possible. this would be purely optional.
    • Block 2 can NOT be placed on turrets.
    • Ships from different factions cannot be connected using the same code
    • Pirates could use this methood too so that Pirate fleets can protect their space stations

What do you guys think? tell me anything that could improve this idea!

Have you ever thought about making automated turrets stations on your station, sure they have limitations to z rotation(up and down) but it can be overcomed with more then 1 spread out certain distances and they still do same functionality as ai ships but they don\'t move.

Honestly they dont work well, and ruin the flow of my space station. i prefer having my giant Turret boats floating around destroying pirates instead....

make big ships that have the defences you want, park them in the areas you want, remove the engines :P

that\'s what i\'ve done in the past

We don\'t need a new block, we need general improvments to the Bobby AI, like being able to set AI modules to defend/escort specific objects.

I think that would actually be better, just tell the AI the name of the ship/station its defending!

Although I like the idea of an electronic fence for my Bobbies, generally improving the AI seems the better route.

I\'ll have to try removing the engine on my next defence ship, thanks for that idea.

Even if the fighter AI becomes OP I\'ll probably keep the \"Big Gun\" on the roof of my station because it\'s nifty.
