Actual stations/shipyards

    Ingame you can find abandoned stations. They're nothing more than a mass of resources.



    It'd be better if there were 'faction' stations. These would have turrets and strong shields for defense That can't be hard, can it?



    One step better: Have these stations spawn ships of the same faction. Each station would have a limited selection of ships that it can make. Also, whilst a repair ship is around, the station will use it's own resources to rebuild itself if parts are destroyed.

    Another step better: Make these stations shops.

    The best step: Some of the stations should build fleets. These fleets accomplish goals. Trade with friendly stations, or travel together to destroy an oposing station .

    Have these stations remember which player factions are at war with them too.



    Whilst some of these sounnd difficult, i'm sure they can be done step by step. This is the kind of thing that would make the alpha far more interesting and far closer to beta.

    I had suggested previously that the game include pirate stations, and have them be the scource of pirates. Though it would be cool to have friendly npcs as well. That and the possibility of taking over stations still needs to be hashed out. if there was some sort of out of ship/boarding weapons and such that would make it where you could take over stations or ships!

    Thoughts?

    I dont think actual shipyards will be built until its the best way to build ships. Right now you can carry a whole ship of materials in your pocket, and construct them at no risk, anywhere.

    To make shipyards viable you need to change those 3 things:

    A smaller inventory on your person unless youre in a cargo ship. So you have to build near your storage.

    -Shipyards can hold lots of materials and park a freighter nearby to load on/off the materials for making a ship.

    It means making it dangerous to build in space becuase of air limitations and pirates.

    -Shipyards have a ready oxygen supply and defence guns to fend off raids

    It means making it hard to get off planets so you dont see everyoen just build on a planet.

    -Otherwise planets are the cheapest shipyards, because they have air, no pirates, and plenty of room for material storage.

    AI spawning pirate stations are already planned, no repair ships or seperate factions yet, but the spawning stations are incoming.

    The current vanilla shipyard is pretty impressive. Let the fans build more stations to include in the game. IMO all they need right now is to be active objects, so that they can\'t be reclaimed by starter ships. It\'s currently better to use stations as scrap metal (and what a haul!) than as a place to maintain your ships.

    Stations don\'t necessarily need huge guns and armaments to work well, but they should probably get better stats and things than normal ships. It could be special armor, special shields, high quality turrets, something else, or all of the above.
