So, I've been playing a game called Galaxy On Fire 2 recently, which isn't exactly a sandbox, it is more of a campaign game. But it has side missions which you can do after finishing the campaign. To get to the these side missions there would be a room in each station full of people that are there to either sell you a rare item, give you a job to do for a certain amount of credits or items, or just chat with you.

So maybe it could be implemented that every trading guild station or shop has a separate room filled with npcs that could vary from being maybe alien or human or etc that will give you missions or sell you things, like maybe special ship blueprints, or astronaut gear and handheld weapons that you can't get anywhere else, for when more astronaut gameplay is introduced.

And maybe, you could add a feature that involves pirate missions. Where if you enter a pirate station sector, they would ask you if you want to pay a fee to allow safe passage, which could be determined by how many credits you have on you. And pirate station mission rooms could be full of black market dealers or pirates that give missions that involve raiding trading guild convoys or stations. Pirate missions could have more money involved, because you would have had to pay the fee to get there in the first place.

Just a quick little idea, hope you guys like it, and if it is planned then I'm even more excited for when an update like this comes out.

Perhaps there could be Space Pubs on some of the trading mission and you can go around asking for missions and such.

Perhaps these NPC's could reside within the current Trading Guild stations? They're rather empty now. There could be a designated place for them, especially when more "fluff" NPC's are added to fill up stations.

    Perhaps:
    • Commanders on the bridge give pirate cleaning bounties.
    • Freight ship captains give escort missions.
    • Random people may offer you trading deals that are better than the prices at the Trading Guild stores.
    etc.

Also, buying weapons from NPC would be allot more interesting if the weapons were procedurally generated.

Been working on a "Restaurant at the End of the Universe" style station, no blocks put down yet but I'm fleshing out ideas on paper. This would be a perfect place to find those NPCs. Just pull in to your local Xzvitch's Diner or Shrodinger's Donuts franchise a see who's got some work for you.

You know,I actually think I like this idea a little bit better than having just one room for them to reside in. Spreading them out would make more sense and make stations less lonely. Of course there could also be a pub on each station like Jay_Do mentioned, maybe there could be gambling missions in there or more people that just want to chat?

Can't wait for it to be finished.
