A New Server

    Some time ago some friends and my self were brainstorming ideas for how to set up a server for Starmade. Little did we know at the time that we would actually do what we were talking about, but as it turns out we are.
    The server we are working on is not yet ready for public use as we have a lot of things we have to test and build. But I figured we can let the starmade community know what we are doing and see if the like it and see if they have any good ideas to add.

    The goal of this new server is not to be another creative mod server were people shoot at each other occasionally. We want this server to be a plays where players can legitimately ban together to form and empire and attempt to take over the galaxy. We also wanted fined away to balance the ships and make combat more interesting, not just who has the biggest titan. So to that end here are some of the things we are implementing in the new surer.

    Blueprints bought with blocks.
    We have decided to this for a number of reasons, but one of the big ones is to make titans, carriers, and battleships harder to get and risky to field. We also want people to try and repair damaged ships rather than just deleting them and buying a new one.

    Rare AI shops.
    We are decreasing the number of AI shops that normally spawn, in an attempt to prompt a player based economy. We want to see players setting up stores and factorys instead of relying on AI shops.

    Set Factions.
    This idea came about because we where tired of servers faction hubs being so full of one member factions that it became impossible to use because you fps would drop to one when you opened it.
    So we are creating a number of open factions that players may join. We will allow player made faction, but you had better have at lest five people willing to join right off the bat and a good back story. We may still be hesitant to allow it after that however because another reason for set factions is faction homes. We don't want to see every space station out there a faction home and by limiting the nuder a factions we hope to fix that. If all goes well we hope that players will use stations to hold territory and and that we will see as factions battle it out stations rising and falling on a regular bases.

    Shields are Rare.
    You will no longer fined shields in the shops any more, in fact they are practically nonexistent. The only way to get them is by finding the ancient ships and facilitys that are hidden around the galaxy.
    We are doing this again to balance the big ships and the little ships. sure you can have a big titan, but you are not untouchable a little corvette can take you down if the polite is good enough. Battles will also not take forever.

    So thats the big things were are doing. If you have any questions, comments, complaints, or suggestions feel free to post them we are all ears.

    maybe you should make so they are craft able shield but you need a lot of resources, you should probably wait until the universe spawning changes in a upcoming update in a week hopefully and also when the stations are added. will there be battle mode where you can get rare resources or other items for winning battles. is this a USA server

    Yes it is a USA server and as for battle mod I haven't learned enough about that to implement it yet.

    There are already a few servers that run on a set up similar to what you mentioned.

    If you really want to create something different start by modifying the block behavior file to create a new play style/balance for the server.

    If you really want to create something different start by modifying the block behavior file to create a new play style/balance for the server.
    You have a good point I have thought about it once or twice, but not on a large scale. It might be worth looking into.
