A few Questions about Hosting a Server

I've been interested in hosting a Starmade server, and I need to know a couple things.

1. How much RAM would 10-15 people use? Is it dependant on what kind of ships they are using or something like that?
2. What draws people to a server? (Feature-wise)
3. Would it be preferable to host though a provider or my personal VDS? (Pretty intermediate specs)

1. Depends on how big the players ships were and what you were planning to do on it 1-2GB should suffice

2. Stable ping, no lag, other people, rewards and content

3. Depends the specs of your vps but some of the more popular servers we host take 5-10% of an E3-1240v3 Xeon cpu so your vps most likely wont cut it.
