Man my frame rate stinks! I can't render many blocks at all. Is there a 16x16 texture pack for starmade? even one?

I think that the first texture pack ever was either 16x16 or 32x32, by poking the right people you might be able to get it.

That pack would be missing textures for half the blocks in the game, unfortunately.

True. To be honest, I really don't think that textures affect performance that much.

even if you use a texture pack with 16x16 textures they'll be scretched to 32x32 which is a hardcoded minimum texture size, using 16x16 textures would just make starmade look worse with 0 benefit.

keptick is right, texture affect performances very slighty, change view distance instead ^^

The game doesn't support 32x32 last time i checked, if that's still the case, 16px is a no-go.

I can only recall the tile size being 64px as a minimum, (unless i'm missing out on something from 2+ years ago).
The designs from way back when however, were for some reason painted so 1 "pixel" in the design was infact a 2x2 block. They looked like a 32px pack but took up 4 times the space of one. Both odd and misleading :D

Recent optimisations sort of removed texture resolutions as a main bottle neck i think. Like others have mentioned the other options you can tweak will yield more FPS. View distance is the main one. If you are on a Nvida card, you could try turning Multi-Draw on in the advanced options.

Unfortunately, I'm using an Intel video card that Apple apparently got out of a dumpster somewhere... I should have invested in a better card when I got this machine four years ago.

Segments Drawn is set to 250 already. That's the only way I get decent frame rate. Shadows are off. Just about anything graphics intensive that CAN be disabled is. Simple lighting is non-functional because I cannot see inside of ships or structures with it enabled, so I can't use that.

I think you are simply out of luck, friend. Based on how you mentioned getting a card when you got the machine, it sounds like you are on a laptop, so it sounds like a new graphics card will not work as an upgrade for you. Even the 2D space sims I know about (primarily, NAEV) rely on a dedicated 3D accelerator.

Fortunately, the release of the 900 line of NVidia cards is finally dropping the price of 700 line cards.... slightly.

And I've read that AMD might have a new architecture coming out soon. If they can manage to push that through the door (honestly, the 970 fiasco would have been the perfect time to come out with something, ANYTHING new to take some market share away from NVidia, who needs the competition from AMD in order to improve better), it might reduce the price on AMD's R9 and even R7 lines. Again, slightly.
