I've noticed it benefits from both. I also notice a significant temperature spike on the CPU. I don't recall if SM multi threads. More ram is good, CPU or GPU is more likely a bottleneck at 8gb though.

Actually, you have to specifically change config settings in starmade to even be on that list. It in no way represents the multiplayer playerbase.
