Hesitant to report, as I'm not sure it's a bug or my own issue. I place the required materials into the Standard Factory, select the Cannon Computer, and activate the unit. It ticks over, but does not take the materials and does not produce a computer.

Ditto. Just happened to me, too. I spawned in a fresh universe, fire my new sidearm into open space a few times, and placed my core and salvage/weapons computers. I was just placing my lovely grey hulls when it crashed with this error.
