Yes, but they are fighting to get this worldwide. These are not all US companies, they are companies from all over the world.

Power re-chargers can be placed in long lines in a checkerboard patter for efficient power generation for large ships, but, after 1 million recharge, you can place it however you want. Power tanks, Shield re-chargers and capacitors can be placed however you want. There is no "Efficient way" to...

Shield Rechargers and Capacitors can be placed however you want. They are not more efficient in any special shape, so just cram them in anywhere and everywhere you can! :P

You can also slave effect computers and modules to weapons to give them more effects, like explosive, Ion, EMP, ect. Apart from that, you can also link lights to the computer too to change the color of the projectile.

The Minelayer is currently not in the game. Shield rechargers recharge shields, while shield capacitors give you more shield capacity. Its the same with power, Power reactors generate power while the power capacitors/power tanks give you more power storage.

You can actually fit over 5 different colors of hull in all shapes in your inventory.
