Why? They are important for things like slanted engines and glowing lightning and energy shield things.

In all honesty it would be best to have a special 3D model interior turret. Since the blow torch bypasses shields it would be simple to take out given the right positioning and planning.

I think you missread he says he has friends IN Odium not that his faction members are FRIENDS with Odium. I believe those of the EH who return believe the same as him.
