      I'd just like to point out to Lecic that Starmade is not like most Alphas. In it's Alpha stage it is already on steam and has a much larger community than most other Alphas.

      In 2D mode it drops all the systems regardless of height into the Hex of their area. No system is directly under another. Thats how I remember it worked at least.

      3D map can be turned in any direction however the universe was generated with a seed code (42) so it is random. You can switch to 2D mode though.

      The EVE map has a 2D and 3D view the one above is the 2D one which shows a great way to view faction territory. Thats one version of the 3D one.
