Well you could always just try out the server to see if you like it. All you need to do is make a simple application.

The server gets more and more active the more people that apply. And as Artificer said there tend to be a lot of activity here and there, sometimes even too much (either that or the fools are building too big again).

Specialized anti shield bombers maybe? would make sense. On another not the other weapon combos can bring shields down just as well as missiles+beam can. No big difference really.

I thought this was about damage dealt to shields not armour. So beams as a weapon against shields should be fine with the penalty against armour. Beams are hitscan, basically easier to hit with than lockon missiles, since the lockon tends to reset if another nav icon interferes.
