      You make a sound point. Even with hardened hulls, that 10 damage per block would be 5 damage to the blocks 400 health. Still, your enemy is spamming small 100 damage guns, you could easily die while the shields are up.

      Indeed, with the new weapon system going into place, defensive phalanx like systems should be possible. I would add that AI turrets should track missiles heading on a general vector towards your ship and shoot at them.

      To clarify, he is suggesting the shields have bleed thru damage of 10-20%. Mathematically, if you deal a 100 damage to a ship the shields would take 80-90 damage and the blocks under the shield would take 10-20 damage.

      Wasn't the star trek version of torpedoes fired out of a rail gun like launcher and guided (when actually using a guided torp) by manoeuvring thrusters in the torp? Giving it a limited tracking ability but a lot of punch compared to their phasers.

      Tempting idea, I see where big ships packed to tightly could set off a nasty chain reaction and just wipe out the whole ship. I think all internal systems should be more dangerous to simple stuff into a flying brick/cube/etc. It would give some purpose to building bigger more spaced out interiors.

      I agree with you Darth. Getting players a running start on a server, even if they don't know how to work the system to their advantage, is important. Protecting spawn and giving faction leaders incentives rather than deterrents to adding newer players to their faction is a big part of that.
