After seeing the other thread of the same name I got to thinking 'Why are the trading guild the only people I can buy stuff off?' There appears to be no other NPC faction willing to sell you things, not even the pirates. Instead of telling me about the limited resources of the dev team why don't...
Make it so all warp gates are visible by default. You can toggle your warp gate to be be visible to Ally factions, Neutral factions and Enemy factions or a combination of these. Even if your warp gate is invisible to another player it should become visible to everyone for a second or two...
I do not mean the current system. Mass based docking is just what it sounds like, a ship can dock to a docking area regardless of dimensions as long as its mass/block count is <= the amount supported by that docking module (as long as its not clipping into anything)
I think that PMs and faction chat should be intercept-able in some way, antennas maybe? Hailing at close range would be the only way to have completely secure communications.
Occlusion culling would be nice. Personally I still think spherical planets are still a possibility this is an artificial universe after all, we just need to stop basing our ideas around the rules in the real universe (warping the plane too look like a sphere, loading screens ect...) and make up...
Your ship's COM is based around the core rather than the area with the most blocks. If your core is at the front then your ship is going to end up balancing on it's nose.
However within a given (cubic) volume you can fit more blocks in the form of 3D arms than you can in the form of lines resulting in a more efficient generator in the same amount of space.
In real space the limit is determined by your specific impulse and how much fuel you have. Undoubtedly a large ship would have a higher top speed but as others have already stated it would have a lower acceleration due to structural stress.
I agree entirely with the above post. Maybe large ships would have an option to circumvent the turning and acceleration limits at the risk of damage, similar to what kirk does in 'The Great Starship Race'
I don't see a need to nerf large ships, with the new economy they are much harder to make and very costly to loose. If someone puts in the time to make a 10,000 mass ship it shouldn't be killed by a 100 mass fighter for the sake of 'balance'. On the other hand capitol ships would feel more like...
