You can build space stations as heavy as you want without negatively effecting the station. Edit: There is already blocks that emit light in starmade that have edge blocks, the crystals.

It was good idea for them to do that because it increase the durability of small ships.

More people would want fuel added into starmade in the future. Might as well redo the current power system and build it so fuel can work with it.

In addition to what you have suggested i will suggest what I have suggested often when a new power source suggestion came up is lava fueled reactors. This is just a suggestion CPR=current power reactor lava fueled reactors can produce 10~20 times the more power then CPR at maximum production...

The current power system works by shooting light backwards and forwards the further the light goes the more power it produces. When other power reactors are near it the light can go into the other reactor increasing distance of the light and the power it produces. when there is a cross section...
