You probably know that you can get more score by adding interior deep into the systems area in the form of maintenece or engineering corridors and rooms. Its a good way to bring the price down while making the ship more impressive.

wedging? build helpers? i've got to recommend building circles(semi or not) without any reference, be it with slabs or wedges. it makes for shapes that usually work with the ship better than perfect ones do. Also its really fun to do. The buildhelper is really bad at making good circles anyway...
