      I think it's because people were thinking adding a decorative block would take some sort of monumental effort on schema's part, while in reality, all the work could be done entirely by kupu, right down to adding them in the block editor and submitting them to schema for inclusion in an update.

      They can just buy a new one, but it feels like a waste if the ship is still remotely capable of functioning. Personally, I kill and mine because I'm not enough of a jerk to make people suffer.       Alternately, massive ships carrying dockable cargo containers with external FTL drives in addition to normal sublight drives. Amazing FTL speed, crap sublight, moderate shielding, and few weapons.

      Personally, I'd prefer if it were a combination. The complexity of the engine should increase thrust output, but not as much as pure quantity, resulting in the need for both blocking and complex thruster design.
