      Bobby AI doesn't aim the turret itself precisely enough for that to work well. More often than not, turrets are about 10 degrees off from their actual target.

      Cannons benefit far more from Explosive than beams do (even to the point that a large array of cannon-cannon-explosive is one of the more devastating weapons ingame right now), and Punch and Pierce effects do not permit beams to penetrate armor blocks. Cannons still win.

      That's partially what I mean. Replacing blocks should ideally cost either Scrap (or some other viable resource) + Time + Astrotech Beams, or complete blocks for much faster replacement.

      I imagine that the difference would be credits at NPC shipyards and other-faction shipyards vs. materials at own-faction shipyards or something.

      I feel that turrets should run a collision check in all possible orientations when docked to an entity, then save the range of motion, yes, but with one minor addition. It should narrow the possible ranges of motion to be within 0.1 degrees of the collision range, in order to prevent turrets...

      The problem isn't killing armor HP. It's killing systems. Even if your first damage tick kills the armor block, subsequent ticks won't hit systems unless you're shooting a totally stationary target. Cannons don't have that drawback.

      He's talking about an option to fix your turrets, not to enable them. But I can get behind a turret control computer so you can use your turrets as manual weapons too.

      Right now, cannons are dramatically better than beams for reliably killing ship HP - both Armor HP and Structure HP. When a ship is entirely out of Armor HP, it has the problem of armor still existing, and in a moving battle, beams run into the problem that they're continuing to hit armor...
