Panpiper 1). Would you cut that shit already? It stopped being entertaining around five posts ago. 2). If the shape of the reactor does matter the ships will look nothing like your "two needles one after another", since that would be woefully inefficient in so many ways. It all really depends...

I was asking about the overall placement and whether or not a "barbell with reactor parts on either end"-designs would be the only way to go, because it sure as hell looks like it.

I remember a blog post about the system from some time ago where we were told about the convex hull algorithms. Do these algorithms make that the shape of the reactor actually matter and determine the maximum efficiency distance? In other words, would it be possible to make, say, a long thin...

Hell, why only limit ourselves to scans? Why not do radar jamming to boot? Hide the whole damn site, or at least the station, docked stuff and players on it. Although I wouldn't recommend cloaking. The problem is that while your enemy won't be able to find it, you won't find it either. Such...

Every reactor group, regardless of size, gets a fixed capacity. Every chamber or chamber upgrade use certain amount of this capacity, again regardless of size. Chamber size doesn't do anything by itself. It's a constraint that simply forces you to make bigger chambers for bigger reactors. Now...

      New Power System/Auxillary Question

No you do not. Only one reactor can be active across the dock chain and it's the root entity's reactor. Only if it's on the core entity. Also note: AUX is a part of the old system. Unless devs "upgrade" it to the new system, it will be removed eventually. It also may not function on a dock...

I swear, there is a conspiracy of stupid people to keep me permanently mad. It's not a "stop effect" - it doesn't neutralize gravity. It only pushes itself off of stuff. I fail to see the logic in that. If anything, it adds balance to turret spam by requiring you to actually have a reactor...

What have you done... (power system wtf)

You don't "need" to cut anything. But if you do, you'll end up with even smaller and lighter ship, which means you don't need so much thrust... In the end, after you've reached an equilibrium, you've got a ship with relatively same characteristics, except it's that much smaller. Also this...

What's stopping you from filling the space old stuff used to take with shield caps? Nothing. On the other hand you could shift stuff around and reduce the size of the ship, making it harder to hit. And I wouldn't worry about the NPC or universe update - we're gonna be waiting for them longer...

Those are definitely repulsors, not "hovers". It makes one wonder if those would be a good defense against warhead block torpedoes... I'd be more excited if they would make a whole system revolving around projecting fields though. Could lay the groundwork for universe update too, what with...

Aren't the stealth effects cover the same-ish niche as the defensive ones? It's another way to protect yourself, by avoiding getting shot at completely. Hell, one could even consider offensive weapon-oriented effects as defensive, when used in "glass cannon" builds that blow up the enemy before...

What have you done... (power system wtf)

The priority system truly is a godsend. No longer inattentiveness while firing weapons would would cost you maneuverability or shield regen. Another interesting thing I noticed in the Old vs New struggle is that it reminds me of a struggle between War/Starcraft and Total Annihilation in a sense...

What have you done... (power system wtf)

Please stop fucking with our large ships. Signed: silent majority that actually enjoys or at least tolerates PvP. And who decides what's "large" and what isn't? Some idiots think that a ship twice the size of Isanth is already "large". And please stop fucking with our factions. You can take...

What have you done... (power system wtf)

I try to keep an open-ish mind. That also lets me have fun by being angry at both sides. I am no expert on the soon-to-be-old power system by any stretch of imagination, though I am not a completely hopeless helpless moron either. I do like the complexity current system allows, but I would be...

What have you done... (power system wtf)

It'd be pretty dope if they would let us set it up to (not) affect only a certain group - faction, allies, neutrals and enemies. But even as an IFF-less "screw everyone in the sector" system it would work fine. I wonder if the warpgates would still work there. That'd be pretty neat. Although...

What have you done... (power system wtf)

Except that's retarded because you want your radiators as close to whatever needs cooling as possible, so the heat transfer and subsequent cooling through radiation would happen faster. God, I still can't believe they went with those idiotic stabilizers instead of good ol' heat. I mean...

Being able to repair destroyed ship blocks automatically.

That reminds me of whatsitsname field from Battlestar Galactica that somehow hardens the hull in leu of actual energy shields. Though that exact mechanic is now relegated to chambers apparently, ship-wide block repair system (NB: only repairs existing blocks) could make shields only one of the...

Devblog 13th September 2017 (Power Stream!)

We need to go deeper. AUX was a bandaid to replace another baindaid - docked reactors, which in turn were a mean to sidestep the imperfections of the current power system. It's just such a shame to lose a whole system over reimplementation of another. I hope they'll reuse it for something or...

I honestly wouldn't mind something done with them to keep them as some sort of an "alternative" power source for variety sake. Not like AUX mind you, but as a passive "normal" type. I also have a nagging feeling that the auxiliary power could be deprecated as well with the new system in place.
