You need to be in build mode then hit ctrl to bring up a menu which will allow you to change the direction the block faces.

Do you have a hull block in your inventory? When you hit M you should place a hull block and get the option to name your station.

Ok there are two things that could produce that error message from my experience. Firstly, is the docking area too small. You should get a message saying the dock is too small but sometimes incompatable is the message given. Secondly, do you have any turrets or ships docked to your ship as...
